Easy Kitchen Hack #1: Homemade Air Freshener

April 24, 2015

I may have a slight Pinterest addiction.

Ok, ok, I am massively addicted to “pinning” crafts, brand inspiration, wedding ideas and, of course, recipes. I have nearly 10,000 pins, and at least half are food or kitchen-related (surprise, surprise). While scrolling through the plethora of well-lit photos a while ago I saw a pin for Homemade Air Freshener.

This isn’t a spray (although I have a pin for that too), this is just an easy way to freshen up the stale air in your home and it can really use anything you may have in your fridge or garden. Citrus, herbs, extracts, and essential oil all work well for this. Just throw whatever you have in a small pot of water and put it on low to medium heat. Soon, your house will smell wonderful!

Here are some of my favorite recipes for Homemade Air Freshener:

  • Sprig of fresh rosemary
  • A few lavender leaves
  • Lemongrass essential oil
  • A few sprigs of fresh lemon thyme
  • A few slices of pear
  • Eucalyptus essential oil
  • The peel from an orange
  • A few lavender leaves
  • Peppermint essential oil
  • Orange mint leaves
  • Vanilla extract

Have you tried this before? What’s your favorite recipe?

Don't look at my dirty stove burner.
